Is footwear inside the home good or bad?

Is footwear inside the home good or bad?

In ancient Indian culture footwear is not allowed to wear inside the home. Due to westernization now many people are using footwear inside their homes. As an Orthopedic surgeon I thought it’s better to make a logical blog on this topic.

1.Footwear can be a carrier for microbes like viruses and bacteria, and it’s most likely that these germs will be on the outside of your footwear. When you walk from one room to another it will spread the microbes.

2.Each time when someone goes to the washroom or restroom he /she will wash his/her feets, so in each wash our feet will be cleaned but we hardly wash our footwear. It will be dirty all the time.

3. Footwear can wreck the floor and stains the carpet or create snags.

Conclusion: Because of all these reasons it’s better to be barefoot inside the home.

Tips:

1.Those who are suffering from foot problems like flat foot, cavus foot, diabetic foot and other recommendations by doctors are allowed to wear footwear inside the home.

2.Outside and inside footwear should be different.

3.Inside footwear need to be cleaned with water and soap at least once a week.

4. In winter where the floor is very cold we can use footwear.
