COVID 19: Myth vs facts

1.COVID 19 virus is not a virus but a bacteria.

Fact: The virus that causes COVID-19 is in a family of viruses called Coronaviridae. Antibioticdos not work against viruses.
Some people who become ill with COVID 19 can also develop a bacterial infection as a complication. In this case, antibiotics may be recommended by a healthcare provider.

2.Thermal scanners detect COVID-19.

Fact: Thermal scanners are effective in detecting people who have a fever (i.e.have a higher than normal body temperature). They cannot detect people who are infected with COVID-19.There are many causes of fever.
3.Adding pepper to your soup or other meals prevents or cures COVID-19.

Fact: Hot peppers in your food, though very tasty, cannot prevent or cure COVID-19. It is beneficial for your general health to maintain a balanced diet, stay well hydrated, exercise regularly and sleep well.

4.COVID-19 is transmitted through houseflies:

Fact: To date, there is no evidence or information to suggest that the COVID-19 virus is transmitted through houseflies.

5.Drinking methanol, ethanol or bleach prevent or cure COVID-19.

Fact : Methanol, ethanol, and bleach are poisons. Drinking them can lead to disability and death. Methanol, ethanol and bleach are sometimes used in cleaning products to kill the virus on surfaces – however you should never drink them. They will not kill the virus in your body and they will harm your internal organs. To protect yourself against COVID-19, disinfect objects and surfaces, especially the ones you touch regularly. You can use diluted bleach or alcohol for that. Make sure you clean your hands frequently and thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.

6.5G mobile networks spread COVID-19 in many countries.

Fact: Viruses cannot travel on radio waves/mobile networks. COVID-19 is spreading in many countries DO NOT spread COVID-19 that do not have 5G mobile networks.

7.Use of bleach or another disinfectant into your body will protect you against COVID-19.

Fact: Do not under any circumstance spray or introduce bleach or any other disinfectant into your body. These substances can be poisonous if ingested and cause irritation and damage to your skin and eyes.

8.Can eating garlic help prevent infection with the new coronavirus?

Fact: Garlic is a healthy food that may have some antimicrobial properties. However, there is no evidence from the current outbreak that eating garlic has protected people from the covid-19.

9.Vitamin D and covid-19:

Fact:The Lancet paper speculates vitamin D deficiency as one of the possible reasons for death rates across different countries. It cited an observational study published in the journal Aging Clinical and Experimental Research that used data from 20 European countries. Overall prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in the general population is more. Due to lockdown it’s prevalence has increased further. Vitamin D deficiency may be incidental finding.

10.Folic acid and covid-19:

Fact:Entrance of coronavirus into cells happens through the spike proteins on the virus surface, for which the spike protein should be cleaved into S1 and S2 domains. This cleavage is mediated by furin, which can specifically cleave Arg-X-X-Arg↓ sites of the substrates. Furin, a member of the proprotein convertase family, is moved from the trans-Golgi network to the cell membrane and activates many precursor proteins.
Folic acid (folate), a water-soluble B vitamin, is introduced for the first time for the inhibition of furin activity. It may/ may not be of helpful.

11.Are public systems for disinfecting individuals such as spraying via tunnel or chambers safe to use?

Fact: Spraying of individuals with disinfectants (such as in a tunnel, cabinet, or chamber) is not recommended under any circumstances. This practice could be physically and psychologically harmful and would not reduce an infected person’s ability to spread the virus through droplets or contact. Even if someone who is infected with COVID-19 goes through a disinfection tunnel or chamber, as soon as they start speaking, coughing or sneezing they can still spread the virus.
The toxic effect of spraying with chemicals such as chlorine on individuals can lead to eye and skin irritation, bronchospasm due to inhalation, and potentially gastrointestinal effects such as nausea and vomiting.
